Stroud Against Racism - A small town movement for equality and diversity

I LOVE living in Stroud, Gloucestershire. It’s a small town with a big heart, filled with a wealth of creative and cultural expression. Stroud Against Racism, to me, is its crowning achievement.

I’ve joined the Stroud Against Racism team as a volunteer to help to manage their website. As a Squarespace expert and an advocate of equality, it made perfect sense to help, where needed.

Racism is something sadly that many BIPOC people experience on a daily basis and for me, it’s often difficult to come to terms with this fact. In a so-called modern and progressive society, here in the UK, Racism and white privilege still exist!

The movement was created by Polly Stratton back in the summer of 2020 after a series of peaceful protests in the town, as a response to the death of George Floyd in America. The group has grown to several thousand followers on Facebook and actively promotes diversity and the need for educational reform, to tell the truth about our countries history.

SAR is making waves locally and lots of the right noise, as the groups’ articles in the local press are often littered with racist comments, which only help to reinforce the fact that much is needed to be done to tackle racism in the town and wider Stroud District.
